All of the paintings above were created by Vincent Van Gogh. Due: Thursday, February 8, 2018 Medium: Graphite (Pencil) In your sketchbook, make a line drawing of two shoes (with laces) from observation, as seen from a 3/4 angle (top and side, and some of the front). Focus on accurate proportion and direction of line. Draw big, to fill the paper. Include the laces. Include all details. (Use remote class time and complete it for homework.) Objectives:
Grading Criteria:
Here's a good Pinterest collection of shoe art. Here are some student examples. These have tonal value. Yours doesn't need to (yet):
---------- Medio: Grafito (Lápiz) En su cuaderno de bocetos, haga un dibujo lineal de una zapatilla de deporte desde la observación, visto desde un ángulo de 3/4 (parte superior y lateral, y parte del frente). Concéntrese en la proporción precisa y la dirección de la línea. Dibuja en grande, para llenar el papel. Incluye los cordones. Incluye todos los detalles. Due: One week Due: One week Assignment: Scene or Construction with All Geometric Solids ("Blocks") A value drawing of any subject (either from observation or imagination) reduced to geometric solids. Establish a consistent light source and indicate light's effect on form. Resources to help you draw the forms are at the bottom of this page and in this Google Drive folder. Directions: In composing your subject or scene, design the entire picture plane. Combine the following geometric forms to represent the subject: cube, rectangular solid, sphere, cylinder, pyramid, and cone. You may use any form more than once (In fact, you may have to), but you must use them all. Identify the light source (which should probably be outside the bounds of the picture plane) and the direction and intensity of that light. Indicate how that light source affects the forms in this scene. Include highlights, shadow edges, reflected light, and cast shadows where necessary. The geometric forms must be convincingly real both in their accuracy of line (i.e. linear perspective) and in their chiaroscuro (lights and darks). Medium: Graphite (Use 2B, 4B, and 6B pencils, or Ebony pencil) Objectives: 1. Improve realistic rendering of form 2. Improve realistic rendering of three-dimensional structure through linear perspective. Grading Criteria
Self-critique: As you draw, ask yourself if you are doing the following (You should be!):
The rough sketches below show how light affects each of the basic geometric forms. You will notice that one geometric form is missing: the cone. In addition to all of the forms below, include at least one cone in your geometric landscape drawing. Establish good contrast and a full range of tonal value throughout the picture. Refer to this value scale worksheet (Download and print the linked file.) and use all the values you see here. Rembrandt van Rijn

Using oil pastels, create a color self portrait (head, neck, shoulders) that differentiates light and dark. Use warm colors (yellows, oranges, or pinks) for the lighter areas and cool colors (blues, greens, or violets) for the shadows Medium: Oil pastel Size: Sketchbook (11 x 14") or larger First: Arrange a single light source to create dramatic shifts in light and dark on your face.
